Fresh Furnishings to Brown’s Harbor for Youth Impacted by Foster Care
Excitement filled the air at Brown’s Harbor as the supportive housing community prepared for an impactful transformation on May 2, 2025.
On that sunny Saturday in Pembroke Pines, Florida, five youth who call Brown’s Harbor home received refreshed spaces with brand-new furniture, home décor, and thoughtful touches. It was a celebration of the incredible young adults who’ve aged out of foster care and a meaningful reminder that these youth are seen, supported, and valued.
“We want Brown’s Harbor to be more than just a place for youth to stay for a few years; we want it to feel like home,” said Selfless Love Foundation’s Youth Programs Director, Kendra Hilton. “So, along with receiving comfortable new furnishings, the young adults get to choose how to personalize their apartment. Our goal is to create a welcoming space and a community.”
The day began with junk haulers removing old furniture, followed by new mattress deliveries from Mattress Firm around noon. Rooms2Go generously contributed discounted, stylish furniture to bring warmth and comfort to each space. Selfless Love team members and volunteers cleaned, organized, and added final touches like fresh bedding, art, lamps, and décor to create a true sense of home.
The most anticipated moment came in the afternoon when residents returned to their transformed apartments! The joy and appreciation on the youths’ faces made all the hard work worth it.
The updates don’t end with four apartments, Selfless Love Foundation plans to refresh the remaining 13 apartments at Brown’s Harbor before the end of the year. Look out for our upcoming fundraiser to help make it happen!
At Selfless Love Foundation, one of the most impactful ways we fulfill our mission of transforming the lives of youth is by supporting them as they transition into adulthood. That is why we partnered with Children’s Harbor in 2016 to create Brown’s Harbor. This safe, supportive community for young adults ages 18 to 23 includes on-site staff, life-skills training, educational/career guidance, and access to Brown’s Boutique, where residents can “shop” for everyday necessities, home accessories, and professional attire. Together, we have provided supportive housing for more than 600 youth.
