Celebrating 10 Years of Selfless Love A Decade of Dedication, Impact, and Hope

Date: January 15, 2025 | by Selfless Love Foundation

This year, Selfless Love Foundation marks its tenth anniversary.

This is a truly special milestone, marking 10 years of fostering dreams for foster children, by creating forever families and empowering youth.

Ashley and Ed Brown’s vision has grown into an organization that has impacted countless lives and created a legacy of compassion and purpose.

“What began from the love Ashley and I share has grown into something so much bigger,” shares Ed Brown, co-founder of Selfless Love Foundation. From the beginning, the foundation has focused on fostering dreams for children and youth impacted by foster care. Over 10 years, this mission has expanded through initiatives centered on adoption, independent living, and advocacy, making a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most.

At the heart of Selfless Love’s work is the belief in the power of family. Over the past decade, the foundation has supported countless children and parents on their adoption journeys. Over 500 adoptions have built forever families with Selfless Love’s support. From engaging families to fostering meaningful connections, these efforts have created bonds that last a lifetime. Each story is a testament to the power of love, dedication, and hope for a brighter future.

Selfless Love Foundation is also deeply committed to helping youth transition successfully into adulthood.

In partnership with Children’s Harbor, Brown’s Harbor has provided housing for over 600 youth. More than 13,000 hours of life and leadership skills training have been delivered, equipping young people with tools to thrive. Creating a community where foster youth can grow, learn, and succeed is central to the foundation’s mission.

The foundation’s work doesn’t stop at direct support – it extends to systemic change. By prioritizing youth voices, Selfless Love helped pass a law in Florida to protect children’s privacy. The organization created a National Network that advocates for policy changes at the federal level. These efforts ensure that the needs and dreams of children in foster care are heard and addressed, paving the way for a better future.

This year, Selfless Love Foundation marks its tenth anniversary.

Ten years of building a loving community.

Ten years of changing lives; one child, one youth, one family at a time.

None of this would have been possible without the support of our partners, donors, and the entire Selfless Love community.

Here’s to the next decade of making dreams come true, together; more forever families, more supported youth, and more positive changes to the system.

Debunking the Myth: Young People Aging Out of Care Should Be Independent

Growing up is a challenging journey for any young person, but the path can be even more arduous for those in foster care. Despite our nation’s value on independence, research and experience indicate that the expectation of self-sufficiency for young people who age out of the foster care system is a myth at best and unhealthy at worst.

When I Left, They Left

If I’m writing from my heart, a permanent connection is something I’ve never experienced. To me, the connection leaves when you leave care.

My name is Ralynn Floyd. I have been in foster care for almost 15 years. The journey wasn’t always easy because I was too young to understand what was happening.

The Dignity of Risk

“Being in foster care felt like being incarcerated,” shared a young person with lived experience. Incarceration, the act of confining a person, is used for retribution, incapacitation, deterrence, and rehabilitation. Youth in foster care have not committed a crime so why do we limit their freedom to make decisions and take risks?
