Selfless Love Foundation CEO Ashley Brown and youth advocate Madison Kemp discuss how they are helping current and former foster youth enrich lives on ‘America’s Newsroom.
Growing up is a challenging journey for any young person, but the path can be even more arduous for those in foster care. Despite our nation’s value on independence, research and experience indicate that the expectation of self-sufficiency for young people who age out of the foster care system is a myth at best and unhealthy at worst.
My name is Ralynn Floyd. I have been in foster care for almost 15 years. The journey wasn’t always easy because I was too young to understand what was happening.
As a foster kid, I found that permanency and supportive adults were both typically lacking. During my time in care, there was always a wave of people coming into and out of my life.
