Selfless Love Foundation on mission to help foster children find ‘forever families’

Champagne, dancing flowers, and Patrón Tequila tastings welcomed guests to Selfless Love Foundation’s Fifth Annual Gala. The sold-out event at The Breakers on Saturday, May 14 raised more than $3.6 million to transform the lives of children and youth in the foster care system.

Have you ever wondered what goes unnoticed within the system? It may surprise you, but approximately 420,000 youth are in foster care in the United States, with a national average of 55 kids going missing in a single day.

“Being in foster care felt like being incarcerated,” shared a young person with lived experience. Incarceration, the act of confining a person, is used for retribution, incapacitation, deterrence, and rehabilitation. Youth in foster care have not committed a crime so why do we limit their freedom to make decisions and take risks?
