Selfless Love Foundation on mission to help foster children find ‘forever families’

Can you imagine feeling lost or alone with no one to guide or support you in your life? For youth in foster care, this is often their reality — one that can be changed by having supportive adults, staff, and mentors.

As an alumnus of the foster care system and now an elementary school teacher, I feel deeply honored when I am the chosen adult for my students.

Imagine if a stranger took you away from the only home you had ever known. Your family, friends, everything that was familiar – gone. Imagine the confusion, sadness, anger, and fear. This is the experience of a child being taken into the foster care system.

Selfless Love Foundation’s One Voice Impact youth leaders are vocal about the need for Florida to improve how it delivers life skills training courses to youth in foster care. These youth have experienced the challenges of accessing these vital tools as they transition out of the system. As we continue to learn, the first step to effectively changing the system is listening to these voices of experience.
